History and scope

IOP Topical Research Meetings

The Institute of Physics introduced a new conference series in 2011 entitled "Topical Research Meetings". These are discussion style-meetings on major and topical themes in physics, including applied physics, astronomy and physics at the interface with other sciences.

Previous Topical Research Meetings:

  • Graphene and related two-dimensional materials
2 - 3 June 2011, Institute of Physics, London, UK

  • Swimming and complexity at low Reynolds number
7 - 8 June 2012, Institute of Physics, London, UK

  • Quantum technologies: taking concepts through to implementations
17 - 18 December 2012, Institute of Physics, London, UK

  • The Violent Universe
31 October - 1 November 2013, Institute of Physics, London, UK

  • Prospects in Neutrino Physics - NuPhys2013
19-20 December 2013, Institute of Physics, London, UK

  • Hybrid Quantum Systems
16-18 December 2014, National College for Teaching and Leadership, Nottingham, UK

Higgs Centre for Theoretical Physics, University of Edinburgh

The Higgs Centre for Theoretical Physics was established by the University of Edinburgh to seek answers to the most perplexing fundamental questions about the nature of our universe at all scales, by creating opportunities for physicists and students from around the world to come together to formulate new theoretical concepts to take us beyond the limitations of current paradigms.
